Jonathan is one of the most experienced student defense attorneys in the country. He has represented college and university students in more than 150 college and university conduct and academic discipline proceedings and related criminal/civil proceedings. His experience encompasses alleged college and university violations including but not limited to rape, sexual assault, sexual harassment, hazing, domestic violence, drug & alcohol charges, disorderly conduct, assault, battery, plagiarism, cheating & academic dishonesty and housing code violations. 

His accomplishments include numerous successful outcomes for clients accused of Title IX campus sexual assault violations at several different universities, as well as aggressive work on behalf of survivors in Title IX campus sexual assault cases. He is an exceptionally well-rounded college student advocate who is equally skilled in the university hearing room, university appeals process, meetings with university administrators and investigators as well as in the criminal courts.

Jonathan is well versed in Title VII, Title IX, FERPA, FOIA and HIPAA, the Campus Sexual Violence Elimination Act, and the Clery Act, and applicable Office of Civil Rights regulations and sub-regulations and guidelines under the U.S. Department of Education. 

Professional appearances include guest lectures at George Washington University on national student conduct policies and served as a Title IX CLE Panelist at the National Asian Pacific American Bar Association’s 2017 convention. 


Jonathan spent five years at Washington, D.C. firm Wu, Grohovsky & Whipple, PLLC. At WGW his primary focus was student defense. He secured numerous favorable outcomes for clients accused of campus sexual assault, as well as survivors of sexual assault. Jonathan was also active in the firm’s white collar, whistleblower, corporate and transactional practices.

Jonathan served as a public affairs professional for Porter Novelli's Washington, D.C. office, where he was an integral part of several award winning public relations campaigns. His background in public affairs and media relations enables him to advise his clients beyond immediate legal matters to help protect reputations from harm. Jonathan holds a B.S. in Media Studies from Radford University and is a 2012 graduate of Roger Williams University School of Law where he served on the Moot Court Board and was president of both the Criminal Law Society and the American Constitution Society. Jonathan is admitted to practice law in the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Virginia, the United States District Courts of Eastern and Western Virginia.
